IPL 2025 Qualification Scenario: What does Delhi Capitals need to do to make it to IPL 2025 Playoffs?

DC qualification chances

Delhi Capitals (DC) started the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season with a bang, winning four consecutive matches. Axar Patel, the new DC captain, was hailed for being cool and composed under pressure situations. However, after the initial super start to the IPL 2025 campaign, DC struggled in the next six games, winning just two matches.

Among them was a Super Over win that they won against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), which was only possible because of Mitchell Starc's superb death bowling in the final over as well as in the Super Over. The main problem for DC's four losses is their inconsistent batting and bowling performances. The batting is heavily reliant on KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs. Both have looked immaculate while finishing games for DC, but the duo would not mind a few runs from the top-order batters.

The ever-reliable Faf du Plessis has looked patchy, as have Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel. Meanwhile, in the bowling, Starc has lost a bit of steam after taking eight wickets in the first four games for DC. Kuldeep Yadav has also lacked consistency.

Delhi Capitals Performance Thus Far

DC started with a bang with four wins on the trot. Everything clicked for the Capitals, and it seemed a mere formality for them to make it through to the playoffs. Their biggest highlight of these four wins was their triumph against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chepauk by 25 runs. DC also beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium by six wickets. However, in the second half of the IPL 2025 campaign, DC lost four out of six games.

What would hurt DC the most is that three losses have come at their home ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In the game against RCB in Delhi, DC could only score 162. RCB chased down easily with seven wickets in hand. In the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) at home, DC failed to close the game as they lost by 12 runs.

Qualification Scenarios For DC

Currently, DC is placed fourth on the IPL 2025 points table with 12 points from the 10 games that they have played. Luckily, DC's net run rate is on the positive side. The Capitals have four games left to be played. Out of the four games, if DC manages to win all the games, then they will reach 20 points, which will guarantee them a top-two finish. If DC wins two games out of the next four, then they will end up with 16 points, which will still be good for qualification considering the positive net run rate.

If DC wins only one game from the remaining four matches, then they would end up getting 14 points, which makes their qualification for playoffs a bit edgy. DC's chances to make it through to the playoffs are 65%.
