Mayank Yadav Cleared for IPL 2025 Return: Lucknow Super Giants’ Speedster Ready for Comeback

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to receive a major boost as their lightning-fast bowler, Mayank Yadav, gets the green light from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) to rejoin the squad.

The young speedster, known for his blistering pace, is expected to bolster the team’s bowling attack, which has been battling with injury concerns before the start of the season.

LSG picked Shardul Thakur as Mohsin Khan’s replacement for IPL 2025. Akash Deep also missed the initial games of the franchise but has now returned to action.

Mayank, who rattled batters with speeds nearing 157 kmph last season, has been out of action this year after sustaining a lumbar stress injury in his international debut T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024, followed by a toe setback during rehab.

His absence left a gap in LSG’s line-up, even as they held strong with four wins against two losses, sitting fourth on the IPL 2025 points table.

According to a Sports Tak report, Mayank is likely to join the LSG camp as early as April 15, making him a potential inclusion for their upcoming away match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 19.

However, the final decision on his participation will rest with the LSG coaching staff, led by head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan, who has emphasized a cautious approach to ensure the 22-year-old is fully fit.

"Mayank Yadav has recovered completely and his fitness report is fine. He will join the team's training camp on April 15. The decision on which match he will play for Lucknow next will be decided by the coach of the Lucknow team and his coaching staff," a source said as quoted to Sports Tak.

Retained for INR 11 crore before the IPL 2025 auction, Mayank proved his worth in just four games last season, snagging seven wickets with a tight economy of 6.99. His fiery spells, earning him consecutive Player of the Match awards against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024, marked him as a rising star in Indian cricket.

LSG supporters are buzzing online, thrilled at the prospect of Mayank’s return fueling a deeper run in the tournament. Led by Rishabh Pant, the team has shown grit despite missing key players, and Mayank’s comeback could be the spark they need to chase their first IPL title.
